Pack of Lies

An Interesting Drive

I had quite a slog on the Northbound 405 freeway.  Don't people stay home on Sunday anymore?  I could not believe it.  I was late for lunch and boy was it really crowded.  We had quite a wait for a table and then for food despite a reservation. The restaurant at the Skirball Cultural Center billed itself as California Kosher.  Very interesting.  Nothing beats a good kosher dill pickle.

About the Event

David Selby played Peter Kroger in LA Theatre Works production of Pack of Lies.  Shadows in the Sun consisting of Jane, Nancy, Sharon and myself attended the June 20, 2004, 4:30 p.m. matinee.  The play was written by Hugh Whitemore in 1983.  It depicts events leading up to the London arrest of American communist spies, Peter and Helen Kroger, in 1961.  The Krogers were sentanced to 20 years imprisionment but served eight.  The theme of the play was lying and how easily they are told by the Krogers to Barbara, Bob and Julie Jackson, Bob and Barbara to their daughter Julie, Bob and Barbara to each other and by the government employees Thelma, Stewart and Sally to the Jacksons.  The other dramatic personnel were:

victoriawinters is Amused

I had made arrangements with the theatre in advance to visit with David after the play along with a few other Shadows in the Sun club members.   However, the publist had not communicated with either the will call desk, nor the producer.  The producer, being the cop she was supposed to be, asked me about whether or not I had a press credential.   Secretly to myself, I'm repeating the words from Treasure of the Sierra Madre, "we don't need no stinking badges."  After all, we are Dark Shadows fans that in and of itself should be enough of a credential.  I'm still laughing!  Makes me wonder where I could get one of those press credentials.  Next time, I'll have to remember my official David Selby fan badge and see if this will be credential enough.  Hee hee.... Stinking badges!
