3:30 p.m. ish, and time to see David Selby. Here is David presenting one of his latest projects, The Griffin and the Minor Canon. David was the voice of the Griffin. He did this project for public television in West Virginia. The grant specified that only West Virginians be used in the production. They actually found a native West Virginian animator. David shared some stories of how long it took this one animator to complete the project. Finally, David stood up to the producers of the project and said that for what they were paying and considering the small number of animators available that they should just be patient.
His perseverance paid off and the film has since won the 2002 National Educational Telecommunication Association Best in Show Award. It was one of my favorite highlights of the fest.
The video of this project is available for sale at West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
The room filled up by the end of David's talk. The cast reunion was about to take place. The applause was deafening and the flash photography bright. Finally, the introductions were made and the panel began.
Everyone tries to take away the microphone from Roger Davis. Finally, David Selby and John Karlen take both microphones and share their hilarious story of John's arrest by an undercover cop in Hollywood. Then there were several Q&A questions which I now forget. Everyone had a great time.
After the cast reunion, there was such a long line that I dared not wait in it. Instead it was time to eat and get ready for the costume event. I missed the autograph line, Vampire Musical, Evensong, DS Documentary (if they showed it) and the Collinsport Players (drat).
